  • Reservations cannot be transferred between bungalows.
  • The cardholder is responsible for passing all the details on to everyone in their party.
  • Changes and cancellations must be made by the cardholder.
  • Refunds take up to two weeks to come through.

House rules

Short, and all of them for the same reason: this is a quiet place inside an ecological preserve, with no road, no services and no one to clear up after anybody.

The charges below exist because the alternative is a boat trip and someone else’s afternoon.

Noise and quiet

  • Quiet hours are 10pm to 8am, every day.
  • No loud parties. This is a rule, not a hope — it is most of the reason people come here.
  • No amplified music outdoors at any time.

The property

  • No beach fires.
  • No pets.
  • No firearms.
  • No nudity.
  • No commercial activity without written consent.

Waste and the septic system

  • Paper goes in the bin beside the toilet, never flushed. The septic systems here are simple.
  • Vegetable scraps go over the rail to the land crabs. Meat scraps and bones go into the ocean, so they do not draw animals up to the bungalows.
  • Separate glass from general waste. Everything that leaves does so by boat.
  • A $150 charge applies if excessive cleaning is needed after your stay.
  • A $150 charge applies if glass or food is found in the general garbage.
  • A $500 charge applies if septic maintenance is required because of misuse.

Safety

  • There are no emergency services, clinics or hospitals at Los Chonchos.
  • The paths are not lit. Everyone needs their own flashlight or headlamp.
  • Children are the responsibility of their parent or guardian at all times.
  • Travel insurance is strongly recommended.

One more thing worth saying plainly

Los Chonchos is a private community of individually owned bungalows inside an ecological preserve, not a hotel. Other owners and their guests may be on the property and on the beaches while you are here. Nobody has exclusive use of the sand, and there is no such thing as a private beach in Mexico. What there is, is no development, no vendors, no pier and almost nobody about.
