What we do with your details
The short version: we use your name and email to answer you and to look after your stay, and for nothing else. We do not market to you and we never sell your information.
Questions about any of this go to [email protected]. We reply within two days.
Who is responsible for your information
Chonchos Hideaway is responsible for the personal information collected through this website. Write to [email protected] about anything on this page.
What we collect
When you send a booking request: your name, your email address, the dates you are interested in, how many people are coming, whether anyone in your party would find the landing difficult, which bungalow you have in mind, and anything else you choose to tell us.
When you email us: whatever is in your message.
When you book: the details needed to take payment. Card payments are processed by Stripe — your full card number is given to Stripe, never to us, and we do not store it.
When you browse: standard analytics data, described below.
When you give us someone else’s details
Most bookings are for more than one person, so the details you send us are often not only your own — the number of people coming, who they are, and anything you tell us about what they will need on the day.
If you give us information about someone else, please make sure they are happy for you to do that. We treat their details exactly as we treat yours, and we will answer a request from them about their own information the same way we would answer one from you.
What we use it for, and what we do not
We use your name and contact details for one thing: to answer your inquiry, and to arrange and look after your stay.
We do not use your details for marketing. We do not send newsletters or promotional email. We do not sell, rent or share your information with anyone for marketing purposes, ever.
We share information only where it is needed to deliver your stay or run the site — for example with Stripe to take payment, with our email provider to reply to you, and, where you ask us to arrange it, with the local people who cook or deliver to your bungalow.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how people find and use the site — which pages are read, how long for, roughly where visitors come from. This tells us what to improve. It is not used to identify you personally and it is not used for advertising.
These tools set cookies in your browser. On your first visit you will be asked whether to allow them; analytics cookies are not set unless you agree, and you can change your mind at any time from the cookie settings link in the footer.
Cookies that are strictly necessary for the site and the booking form to work are always set, as they must be for anything to function.
How long we keep it
What you tell us about the landing is used to plan your arrival and is deleted once your stay is over.
Analytics data is retained for the period set in our Google Analytics configuration.
Where your information is kept
Chonchos Hideaway is in Jalisco, Mexico, but the services that run the website are not. The site is hosted in the United States, and Stripe, Google and Cloudflare are United States companies. So your information leaves Mexico, and may be stored or handled in a country whose privacy laws are not the same as those where you live.
We only use providers who commit to protecting it, and wherever it sits we treat it the way this page describes. If you would rather not have your details handled outside Mexico, write to us before you book and we will tell you honestly what we can and cannot do.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected] and we will reply within two days.
Depending on where you live you may have further rights under the privacy laws that apply to you.
If you think we have got something wrong, tell us and we will look into it properly and write back. If we cannot put it right between us, you can take it to the data protection authority where you live — you do not need our permission, and you are not expected to come to us first.
Security, and the limits of it
The site runs over an encrypted connection and payments are handled by Stripe, which is PCI compliant. No transmission over the internet is ever completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
If information about you is ever lost or exposed, we will tell you what happened, what it affected and what we are doing about it, and we will tell the relevant authority where the law requires it. We would rather tell you about a small problem than have you learn about a large one later.
If this page changes we will update the date at the top.
If Chonchos Hideaway changes hands
If the property is ever sold, guest records would pass to whoever takes it on, because a new owner has to be able to honour the bookings already made.
Anyone who took it on would be bound by this policy as it stands at the time. If we ever intended to use your information in a way this page does not cover, we would ask you first.
Anything here you want to ask about?
Write to [email protected]. We would far rather answer a question now than have you discover something on the boat.
